Living In North Las Vegas

It's not always easy to live in someone else's shadow. Making a name for yourself can be hard to do when your next door neighbor is one of America's most recognized cities. That's the reality facing North Las Vegas, a community of 210,000 on the outskirts of Sin City itself. Though it may not have the glitz, glamour, and international recognition of its big brother, North Vegas is quickly becoming a hidden gem of the Las Vegas Valley.

Though it may not have the advertising help of a McDonald's like food PR agency to spin its charms on tourists, North Vegas is beginning to attract the attention of tourists and nature enthusiasts alike. On the northern edge of the Las Vegas Valley, North Vegas is just minutes away from some of Nevada's best hiking, biking, climbing, and fishing sites. Unlike the poor folks in Ashbridge's Bay, North Vegas residents enjoy sunshine 82% of the year, so it's almost guaranteed visitors will get perfect conditions to enjoy some of the state's greatest natural vistas. In the winter, visitors can take a cool Nevada December drive on their way to the Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort to take in some time on the slopes.

For those who love the outdoors but prefer their sport a little more leisurely, North Vegas has many top quality golf courses for golf enthusiasts to spend their days on. For those wanting to take advantage of the heat, visitors can run off to nearby Lake Mead, which boasts over 500 miles of shoreline on which to soak up some sun. If you're tired of sitting in your King West lofts and would love a little more action in your day, you'll have to take in a race at the Las Vegas Speedway on your trip to North Vegas. As it's the only NASCAR venue in the state, you won't want to miss it when the boys are in town.

Of course, most people who come to the Las Vegas Valley do so to take in America's highest quality gambling. Though they may not have a graphic design firm Toronto to advertise their product, North Vegas still boasts its own casinos, like the recently built Canary Casino and Hotel. Whether you're a slot jockey or a card shark, the folks there would love for you to come in and test your luck. It may not have the famous Sunset strip, but for anyone looking for a quiet gambling getaway, North Vegas has what you're looking for.

If you have a passion for military history, a trip to North Vegas will be something you'll never forget. Not only is North Vegas home to many from nearby Nellis Air Force Base, it is also home to the Weapons Museum. Whether you're a vet London Ontario based, or one of America's proud military vets, you'll be amazed at what sights and relics the museum has inside.

Though it may share the name Las Vegas, North Vegas has an identity all its own, and it should come as no surprise that it's one of Nevada's fastest growing cities.
